Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Personal Trainer?

A personal trainer is a trained professional that develops, implements, and monitors your progress towards fitness goals. Their responsibility is to ensure exercises are performed safely and in the proper form.

How is online Personal Training different from in-person?

Outside of the environment aspect, in an ideal trainer-client relationship, there should not be drastic differences between online and in-person training. Online training offers more flexibility, but that does mean you are responsible for holding yourself accountable for showing up. Online training is most practical for those who prefer to be in the comfort of their own home or for those who may need to exercise at a nonconventional time. A suggestion before going fully online is for individuals to meet with a trainer in person initially to get the form, posture, exercises, etc. correct.

Do I need to have access to a gym before purchasing a plan for PT?

No. There are thousands of exercises that you can perform to lose weight, build muscles, or tone up without using a single piece of equipment. All you need before purchasing a plan is the commitment to show up and do the work to get to your goals. If you would like to sign up for a gym membership to diversify your workout plan using equipment, we would simply adjust your fitness plan to incorporate that down the line.

I am trying to lose fat. Should I lift weights or do cardio?

Both. By focusing on the proper form and technique, you can do weight training no matter your body fat percentage. Weightlifting can actually help you speed up weight loss and cardio is great for burning calories if that is your goal. The goal is to have a balanced fitness plan that incorporates several forms of exercise and targets the whole body.

Can I turn my body fat into muscle?

Actually, the idea of fat turning into muscle is a fallacy. Fat and muscle are two totally different types of tissue found in the body- like blood and mucous. So, it is not possible for one to turn into the other. Muscle is active tissue that burns calories while fat tissue is where energy is stored. When you are working with a Personal Trainer, you are burning fat (energy) and building muscle. So, what you can do is a workout with the intention of burning lots of energy and pushing your limits as much as you can to build muscles for a toned physique.

What is Youth Sports Performance?

Youth Sports Performance is a multidimensional concept that usually focuses on athletes between the ages of 12 to 17 years old. The performance training trajectory for youth typically includes the fundamentals for a specific sport. It also emphasizes the prosocial experience for the youth with the benefit of preparing them for a professional career. Youth Sports Performance training supports speed, agility, strength, and self-confidence from an early age and has the added benefit of mitigating sports-related injuries further down the line.

How many times should I train per week?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an adult exercise for at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week doing moderate exercises such as walking. When working with a Personal Trainer, you may need to adjust the amount of time you are working out to meet your unique fitness goals. A personalized fitness plan would highlight how often and what type of exercises an individual needs to do throughout the week to meet their goals safely.

Do you only train adults?

No. As a Certified Trainer and Specialist in Strength and Conditioning, I have had the opportunity to work with talented young athletes for over five years. I am always excited to help our youth pursue health and fitness in hopes of starting a professional athletic career or simply getting in shape. Minors must have a signed consent form by their caregiver to receive personal training.
